Running, Food and Local stuff from a blow-in

My annual fitness frenzy from Jan 4th to Jan 5th is now thankfully at an end

After walking quite quickly from the car to the office today in order to burn those extra 4 calories, I suffered slight dizziness at the bottom of the stairs with the thought of walking up them. Luckily I came to my senses and can now happily slob out for another 12 months. The Unfit Comic Strip just gets better and better. This is a ripe time of the year for it.

Diner won't be dining at the Diner again

Ach, I hate giving bad reviews of places. I genuinely want every place I eat in to dazzle me. A few months back a new place opened in Bandon - "Jack O'Dwyer's Diner". It caught my eye instantly because I had only just been blogging about [the dearth of fab and interesting burger joints in Ireland](http://conoroneill.com/2005/06/25/burger-innovation-in-ireland/). Of course I was concerned that it would just be another crappy chipper with a bit of an image makeover but deep down I was really hoping that someone had had the vision to make a great diner in Bandon that would put the likes of the Eddie Rockets of the world in the shade.

Ummera Smoked Eel - From Ballymore Eustace to Bandon

I have promised to blog the Ummera Smoked Eeel since the day I got it and I actually ate it about a week after receiving it in December. Before eating, I scanned all my cook books and the general consesus was that brown-bread, lemon and maybe horseradish were the things to eat it with. But Anthony of Ummera warned me not to over-do it with extra flavours so I took it easy.

G'Day Commissioner Gordon, it's BitMin heah

For one very scary moment, I thought we had accidentally rented out a special Australian Edition of “Batman Begins” redubbed with Sir Les Patterson as Batman, Dame Edna Everage as Rachel Dawes and Michael Caine as Alfred (oh, wait a sec). Luckily we found Ireland somewhere around Latvia. This had Twink as Rachel Dawes……….. Technorati Tags: batmanbegins

Smile and wave boys, smile and wave

Surprise hit movie of the Christmas period with our gang was Madagascar. They have to give those penguins their own movie. Oh and Happy New Year too. We’ve gotten to the stage where we don’t really notice a new year rolling in. We were all in bed before 12, shivering under our covers because we ran out of home heating oil. Coal, we love you. Normal blogging will resume shortly.

Tis the season for Milk Tray and cadbury's chocolate fingers

A big Merry Christmas to all my readers, most of whom are currently co-located with me in the sitting room in Kilkenny. We're having a grand old time in Kilk. All of us are down now except for Emer's gang who will arrive tomorrow morning. We've just assembled the various christmas presents and all of the kids are happily asleep having dreams of Mario Kart DS, Barbie Scooters, Leapad Walkers and Power Rangers.

First posting from Performancing for Firefox

I installed the Performancing extension for Firefox yesterday. It is a blogging add-on and I'm writing this post in it. Looks pretty good except I don't see any handling of Wordpress categories. If this feature does not exist or is not coming soon, I won't continue to use it. From a basic UI perspective it seems fine tho. And it'll handle multiple blogs. More as I investigate. Aha, found the categories tab, excellent.

The Your Sinclair Rock n Roll Years 1985 now available

Unless the name Matthew Smith means something to you and you get a wee tingle when the words “Manic Miner” are uttered, then you are probably not interested in the rest of this post. But, YSNRY 1985 is finally with us just in time for christmas. This is the latest in a very very special (to Speccy fanatics like myself) series of animated “movies” about the hey-day years of ‘Your Sinclair/Your Spectrum’ magazine, an esteemed journal which published two games by yours truly back in 1985/1986!
