Food Timeline
Marc Canter has a nice link over to a Food Time Line showing the when, why and what of a bunch of different foods like ice-cream, french onion soup and worcestershire sauce. Well worth a read if you ever wondered when things like fish and chips became popular. [tags]FoodTimeLine, MarcCanter[/tags]

We went out with some vendors last night to Isaac’s in town. I’ve often heard it mentioned in the past. It was jammed at 7.30 when we arrived and was still jammed at 9.30 when we left. Fantastic room with great decor and a very nice feel to the place.

I was thrilled to receive an email from Dianne Curtin, one of the organisers of the Bandon Farmer’s Market and food writer for the very fine Bandon Opinion. She brought up a few points which I’ll cover here.

Photos from Farmer's Market on Riya
Like many geeks, I signed up for Riya the moment they went into public beta. This is a photo sharing site like many others (e.g. Flickr) but with the twist that it has advanced “AI” techniques for recognising faces. So if you upload many pictures of the same people and train Riya a bit, then in future it will be automatically able to recognise those people in future photos and tag them accordingly for search purposes.

Slight colour blindness
This would be funny if over 2000 people hadn’t been murdered by terrorists in the past thirty five years on this island.
I was just reading the latest edition of my local Bandon Opinion and saw an ad by Sinn Fein Bandon encouraging people to wear the Easter Lily.
Let me just quote the important bit: “combining the green, white and saffron of our national flag”. Green……White…..SAFFRON? Which national flag are these cretins referring to?

Yahoo Mail Beta Screenshots
As requested by Jerry, here are some screenshots. What makes the ads even worse is that they are animated so it is impossible to concentrate on reading the e-mail content because they are so distracting.

Inaugural Bandon Farmer's Market a huge success
I’m delighted to report that the first Farmer’s Market in Bandon was a resounding success despite the awful weather. I’m already looking forward to next months and I hope they consider moving it to every week if the crowds hold up.
First off, apologies for the shockingly bad quality of the photos. I have the aesthetic eye of a blind person.
I headed up initially just after 10am with two of the kids.
