La Sportiva Prodigio Pro after 400km and a year - Running Shoe Review update

Posted by Conor O'Neill on Sunday, July 5, 2026

This time last year I bought my first ever La Sportiva running shoes with the La Sportiva Prodigio Pro.

Everything I said in my original review is still true today after 400km and after buying a second pair too. The grip is still epic despite lots of wear on the front lugs. The elastic collar still keeps the stones out and the midsole is still both cushioned and bouncy. The shoes themselves almost look new as they are so robust.

The original concerns are still there too. Whilst heel lockdown is great, the front of the shoe is too baggy and my foot still moves around too much. Dropping half a size in the second pair to deal with that problem has left me with even more black toenails.

Unfortunately there are some issues which only reared their head on technical runs and after quite a bit of use. They are related to the hard edge of the upper where the elastic bootee meets the shoe. First is ankle rub. I cannot wear them now without taping the bottom of my ankles after being rubbed raw on multiple runs. The second is the same on my heel/achilles. The “pods” at the back of the shoes have squished flat so now my achilles rubs against the same hard edge as my ankle. I have partially solved this by glueing some extra padding into the heel area. Crude and difficult to keep them glued in.

I still love running in them but they are now mostly for short runs because of those problems.

Hopefully this is something they will fix in version 2. But in the meantime I reverted to Speedgoat 7 recently in prep for a certain long race. And was reminded what a soft collar and well locked-down forefoot feels like yesterday.

I have an OpenClaw Agent running every day watching the price of the Pro online across multiple stores. My theory is that the price of shoes drops hugely when a new version is due to come out. We’ve all seen that happen. But there hasn’t been any major drops on the Pro online. Which means we may not be getting a V2 this year?
