Finally something to add to my Scouting trophies

Posted on March 5, 2007, by Conor O'Neill, under Blogging.

I still have the shakes and I don’t think it’s all drink related. Truly, madly, deeply stunned to win Best Blog Post at the awards last night. Thanks a million times over to all of you who voted for me. It was a bloody brilliant night overall and the highlight was Bernie refusing to take the “Best Contribution to the Irish Bloggersphere” award and giving it to Damien instead. A well deserved standing ovation ensued.

Damien manages to have that killer combination of idealism and pragmatism which enables him to come up with a constant stream of great ideas and then execute on them. Where most of us think “wouldn’t it be great if someone did X” , Damien just thinks “let’s do it”.  Thanks Damien.

I was thrilled to meet tons of people whose blogs I read daily. In particular I loved running into Sweary, FeeBee and Roos. Sweary is just an awesome blogger and both FeeBee and Roos write what I consider to be extremely important blogs with the ability to profoundly impact peoples lives in a positive way by demystifying what they are going through. I’m genuinely disappointed that none of them got an award last night.

On the subject of Sweary, I hope I didn’t bore the arse of TSG as I was polluted by the time I headed over to talk to them. I was very happy to hear that Tom out-danced me after I went to bed as I’m having flashbacks to some of my moves and they were not pretty.

Apologies to anyone who I talked drunken nonsense to, I’m nothing like that in real life ;-)

Well done to all the winners and all those who were shortlisted. Damn that was a good night even if I was in bed by midnight……I think.

Snort!

In bed by midnight my hole! You were talking to me and a few others around then and heading off for more dancing as far as I remember!

It was GOOD drunken waffling though! Congrats on the award, lovely to meet you and I hope the various relatives held on to the kids for a while today to give you a chance to recover!

Oh balls, was I? Oops. And they never even put on ABBA like I asked.

Emer/Kevin, Orla/Tony, Mary/Kieran/Louise, Pat/Rose all did an awesome job. Kids had a great time in all the houses even if Fionn the one-year-old left Bray in a girls top three sizes too small for him :-)

Many congrats on the win. Read about it on the Sunday Turbine yesterday.

Richard Develan managed to get both business and personal into one sentence. Very neatly done.

Thanks Pat.

Already getting “and what did you write about?” from the older kids.

Richly deserved win Conor – well done.

I must have had a great night if I went out on the dance floor!

Well done Conor! Looks like I missed a great night, with all the crazy dance moves, drunken waffling and so on ;-)

Tom, I hit the dance floor earlier than you during the AC/DC slot. Luckily no-one remembers it. Thanks :-)

Twas a top night James. A great bunch of people and a wonderful mix too. I think the geek faction was one of the smaller ones. I indistinctly remember slagging off some technical aspect of a Fortune 500 web-site and the person beside said “shields up”.

Congratulations Conor! I got my dates all mixed up – thought it was happening on the 11th – so managed to miss out on meeting up with you all. Glad to see that you won for that squirm-inducing (even in a girl!) entry.

Great to meet you too! And congrats on your vasectomy, I mean, your very well deservered award!!!

Thanks Caroline and Feebee.

As I keep saying, it was supposed to be an encouraging post but I think I’ve put a ton of people off it for life!

Nice to meet you too, Connor, I might meet you or your wife at the gaelscoil one morning.
Well done with the award!

Conor Conor Conor

You were brilliant. We might have to invite yourself and Missus Conor on a golfing holiday or something, yourself and TSG got on that well.

Absolutely thrilled for you and your win. :)

Ah sure, Conor, congrats, a great post and a well deserved win! Glad you enjoyed meeting Sweary and TSG, he’s my brudder!

Had to check in late Sat. night (I am 7 hrs behind Ireland) and see who won what. Disappointed for Sweary but thrilled you won!

Congrats again!

Delighted you won, I thought your piece was very moving (and it brought me back to my own (painless) snip about 20 years ago)

It turns out that no-one noticed Mrs Conor was as pissed as me cos I was louder.

My parents would both have aneuryisms if I went on a golfing holiday. They light candles every morning hoping I’ll take up golf.

You’re all very welcome down for the Bandon Show, just bring your gaming console with you, we have a nice spot for it here.

Thanks O and Martin.

The op clearly hasn’t affected my dance floor moves with their planted feet and swingy arms.

I’m only disappointed that Tony Manero-Raftery got all the glory.
