Oh no, can you imagine flying RyanAirLingus to the US?

Posted on October 5, 2006, by Conor O'Neill, under Commentary, Ireland.

I love paying €3 to fly to Gatwick but the thought of them running trans-Atlantic flights makes my blood run cold. How many Bullseyes do they think they could sell to the average punter over 5 hours to deaden the headache caused by the yellow everywhere?

On the upside, I’d happily pay €5 an hour to have a PSP embedded in the seat back in front of me. But will he really do that?

Being honest, it really wouldn’t be that much worse than Aer Lingus is currently… Last time I was on a flight with them to LAX (March 2006), the food was awful, they charged for the drinks and it was shared tellys on the cabin ceiling… for 11 hours… even your cited article agrees:

“It said its offer for Aer Lingus, which has remodeled itself as a low cost carrier, would net around 500 million euros for the Irish government and over 220 million euros for Aer Lingus staff.”

Jaysus. I’ve done Aer Lingus to Boston a fair bit but only BA to the West Coast and they are not the worst really.

BA is a given for me these days on flights over 6 hours, I’ll tolerate AL on the rest if needs be… I didn’t even mention the worst point of that AL flight to LAX - the guy next to me threw up just before the landing, went everywhere, stank to high heaven and couldn’t move until we had finished the 15 min taxi to the gate - lovely!

Nooooooooooooooooo.

Nearest I’ve ever been to that has been about 20 feet. I hope you thumped him hard, particularly if booze was involved.

I was concentrating on breathing in a very, very shallow fashion and not following suit myself….

I’ve heard it on reasonably good ground that there’s no way the Irish Gov will let O’Leary get his hands on Aer Fungus. Have used AL to go home at Christmas for the past few years - NY to Shannon. I’ve paid up to $1000 for the return fare and still they want 5 euros/5 dollars ‘and if you have the right change that would be graaate’ for a lousy bottle of paint stripper. This year I couldn’t bear to hand over my dollars to them so am trying Continental. I think they give you your own telly at least! It’s the little things than count…

The government may have no choice. Great David McWilliams post on it over the weekend at.

Gotta love BA but only when I’m not paying for it. Was delayed back in Feb flying Austin to Chicago and missed our AL flight home. Rang the company emergency number and they found us two BA flights but we had to pay ourselves and get re-imbursed. $3600 each!! But Club Class is sooooo nice.
