We got one of the first buses up on the Friday and it had a terrible time getting up. One car had to reverse up the hill to get out of its way and had smoke streaming out of its clutch. Whilst the Gaol was beautiful, they do need somewhere far more accessible alright. By complete coincidence, I was wearing my "Are you the farmer?" t-shirt from Hairy Baby today. I can vouch for the crowds as I was house-sitting (& dog-sitting) for my elderly folks who live in Shanakiel (where I was also reared). I have to say I was not at all impressed with the traffic management whatsoever. It was typical Cork 'abandon-car-policy-at-all-costs'. Crazy. It took me 30mins to get back up the Shanakiel Hospital hill to the house. Not a Garda in sight. The T of C is a great idea, if not over-priced but please please choose a suitable venue with plenty of open spaces and parking to offer... Fota House and it's gardens was screaming for this showcase/ The Lee fields another/ plenty of better spaces etc. The City Gaol has its merits but it's not supported by the infrastructure required for something like this. I did however manage to get to my long-awaited viewing of Withnail & I in the Spiegaltent in Emmet Place near the Opera House on Sunday for a 1.30pm viewing. It was a great atmosphere and all enjoyed it! All in all it seemed like a success. This was billed as the 'family session' with entertainment for the kids. One puppet show on the hour and balloon artist doesn't cut it given the entrance fee. While the concept is great shouldn't this whole experience be more than a excessive dishing out the florins(euros) when it is a show case for the food industry. Pricing needs to be addressed to entice me back next year even if we leave the kids at home. Went to t of c on Sunday afternoon with the family.
