Summer of 1984, Prince, “When Doves Cry”….now what was her name..?
On the American football thing, was at a homecoming parade and football game once (Belmont, Long Beach, August 1989). I ate the food and drank the beer and got studiously bored. Not for me, I’m afraid. Nice weather though. Baseball I like. Haven’t been to a game though. I’m not sure ‘Er Indoors will travel all the way to New York with me to be subjected to 4.75 hours of batting/running/catching etc.
For another time perhaps.

She was HOT!
My experience of US sports is pretty limited. Way back in 1987 as a college student on a J-1 I [a] went to a college football game, possibly Rutgers and still have no idea what the rules are [b]saw the Yankees play in Yankee stadium which was cool as were the hotdogs and saw some no-hope team playing Ice Hockey in Giants Stadium which I wouldn’t mind going to again.
Since I’m pretty vague on the rules of rugby despite having played it as a kid, I have no hope of ever understanding American Football.
I wonder would Prince play the half-time gig at the next All Ireland?

“Ah good man, Prince”
It amazes me that the GAA haven’t ventured into razzmatazz before now, for half time entertainment.
Again I’ve seen Giants Stadium from the outside but as yet no experience of inside. Also my ’89 trip was a J-1 visa thing. That visa was the best invention by the U.S. State Dept, ever! I worked on board the Queen Mary Liner (http://www.queenmary.com/) in Long Beach, CA as a tour guide for 3 months with a university buddy who travelled with me. The liner was/is permanently moored there and operates as a hotel as well. Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose was also an attraction there at that time but has since subsequently been moved.

Who needs Prince when you have the Artane Boy’s Band, eh?
Queen Mary beats me hands down! I spent the summer living with my cousins in Rutherford NJ and working in BJ’s Wholesale Club as a cashier. An Autumn’s worth of double-entendres when I got back to college.
