Sorry to disappoint anyone but I have never translated anything by Blyton, an author I could not suffer even at the age of seven.

A couple of years ago Iarla Mac Aodha Bhuí translated into Irish at least one book by Blyton.

There are a couple of Reics Carló still available, I have read at least "Fáilte ar ais, a Reics" and "Reics Carló in Oileán Mhanann".

And, as it was already pointed out, "Harry Potter agus an Órchloch" and "Artemis Fowle" are available in Irish translations. Language seems to relatively good in both books. I did find a couple of solecisms in Potter, but then I am a nitpicker - most of it was quite impressive.

Thanks Roseanne, I'll pop into that shop the next time I'm up with my solicitors!

Catherine ordered some of the O'Brien's ones so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on and what to try next with him.

I love the look of Scéilín Ó Bhéilín

Conor,
An Siopa Leabhar in Harcourt St in Dublin has a big range - http://www.cnag.ie/bunus/siopa.htm
We like Téigh a chodladh, a BHéirín (Is that what it's called??) but my kids are younger.
Also Eolas@Gaelport.com the newsletter (available bilinguall) from Gaelport.com has a section on publications every week so it should keep you up to speed on latest titles.
Good luck

Thanks lads, this is great stuff. I might even use some of it to re-start my learning. I bought Nollaig Mac Congáil's grammar book (the English version) over Christmas and for the first time ever, I'm starting to understand the grammar as opposed to just learning it off.

Bloody Manchán has a lot to answer for. I sit there watching him and think "wait a sec, I barely need the subtitles, I haven't forgotten it all, I did deserve that B in honours in the Leaving!". And "can those people seriously not know what a gluaisteán is?".

Amazing how much I can remember 20 years later especially considering I tried reading my Masters thesis from 1992 last year and didn't understand a word of it.

You might try some of the CDs and Books

Scéilín Ó Bhéilín from Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne has some some stirring adventure stories on it.

He might be a bit old for Cathal Coinín

That's a very good point. He just did his homework and his Irish reading is quite poor. But he won't be happy with "here is Peter, here is Paul".

Thanks for the links. We'll try some of the O'Brien's ones to start with and read them with him. This coming from someone who was stumped by the word síolta in his kids homework and can't spell naíonra!

The problem is that kids will not have the vocabulary to read books in Irish at the same level as in english.

The O'Brien books are quite good. I'd recommend you try them. I bought several of them for my kids (who are Irish speakers) when they were 5 or 6, and they enjoyed them.

Also, Áis do a quarterly leaflet of new books. You'll find a pdf of them on the link.

See also the childrens category at litriocht or Cúpla Focal
