More in the long list of Oisín gems

Posted on January 19, 2007, by Conor O'Neill, under Family, Humour.

Yes I know it’s just another “kids say the funniest things” post but this wee 5-year old thinks deeper than most.

Never promise a bed-time story and then renege:
“Dad when I grow up, I’m going to get married like you, and have babies like you, and forget things like you”

Recent obsession with death:
“Dad, when we all die, does that mean someone else might live in our house?”. “Yes they will Ois”. “So like, they’ll get all our DVDs?”

At least I’ve taught him to say “I’m going to be an engineer when I grow up, like my mum and dad”. Of course he thinks that means he’ll be fixing airplanes and computers. I’m having a hard time explaining the word design.

Excellent. :-D

My 5 year old has similar tendencies - I’d love to see them in conversation with each other.

Other top tips of what not do to:
If you’re playing a game of “What rhymes with this” with your 5-year-old, don’t start with “book“. (Hint: when we used “plant” she stabbed blindly at “flant“).

Corollory: Teach your kids early the difference between when you’re laughing with them and at them…

At least yours need an excuse to get the F out. Mine use it liberally and with passion. I’ve only myself to blame.

I was thrilled when Oscar was watching No Béarla with us and he started giggling every time the guy said “focal”. I still remember giggling when I heard it as a kid too.

“With” and “at” is interesting. The lads get it totally but Sibéal loses the head every time we laugh after she says something, even when it is “with”.

And checking that subscribe to comments and live comment preview are still working too.

Weirdly I cannot logout from Wordpress using FF or Flock but I can with IE7. Known problem?
