I don’t know why it is so hard to find this info so I thought I’d post it here to solve that problem.
A lot of Sky customers don’t know that there are many other free channels accessible on the various Astra satellites (like the good old analogue days) which you can programme into your Sky Digibox. From talking to other parents, by far the most popular of these has to be CBBC and CBeebies. In fact, Channel 4 is now the only remaining mainstream station that you cannot get on Sky in Ireland.
In order to get the two kiddies stations, do the following:
- On your Sky remote, go to Services->System Setup->Add Channels
- In the Frequency box, enter 10773
- In the Polarisation box, select H
- In the Symbol Rate box, select 22
- In the FEC box, select 5/6
- Select “Find Channels”
- It will return a list of BBC Channels including CBBC and CBeebies
- Scroll down to each one of interest and press the yellow button to select them
- When you are done press the “Select” button
- Those channels are now available in Services->Other Channels
Unfortunately you cannot record those stations if you have a Sky+ box. There are more regional BBC stations available at “Freq=10802″ (with all other settings the same as above).
UTV can be found on: Freq=10906, Pol=V, Symb=22, FEC=5/6
Lyngsat, the best satellite info web-site has tons of others.

UPDATE 05/11/2010: They have moved CBeebies. You just have to replace the frequency above with 10803 instead of 10773 to get it.

I have most of those channels in but the fact that they’re not in the Sky guide and as a result I can’t Sky+ them means I don’t actually look at them that often.
A shame really since they have some good stuff on.

I put on CBeebies most days since the 1-year old likes Balamory. A programme which somebody recently described (very accurately) as The League of Gentlemen for small kids.

Ta for that conor! Tellietubbies here I come!! (I mean for chloe….)My local friendly sky-dish-fixer-man wanted to charge me €50 to point the dish in a “special” way so we could get the channels…feckin cowboy & he looked like someones grand-dad too…cant trust anyone these days…..
October 31, 2006 at 10:24 am
Total chancer!
He obviously misses the old analogue days too where the skies were filled with satellites in different positions beaming unwatchable German shite across Europe. Where’s Schwarzwaldklinik when you need it?
October 31, 2006 at 8:15 pm
We are digging our heels in and still only have the 4 Irish channels! Dish free zone! Scuby Doo as Gaeilage (sp?) rules.
October 31, 2006 at 9:08 pm
It’s only four if you consider TV3 to be Irish
I think TG4 do Dora too: Ar aghaidh linn, vamanos.

Thanks Conor. People like you make this world a better place to live in!
April 18, 2007 at 10:18 am
Thanks Conor. Fair play to you. Just came here this a.m. to find out how to get CBeebies for my nieces!
April 18, 2007 at 11:17 am
I was just checking my stats and this post (along with Goat’s Cheese & Pregnancy) is the most widely read one by miles!
We have those settings programmed into the Sky boxes of everyone we visit.
April 18, 2007 at 11:18 am
Oh and of course we can now get UK CH4 and Irish CH6 so now it’s only UK CH5 that we are (not) missing
June 29, 2007 at 8:54 am
Thanks ever so much your info was really useful my 3 year old would be lost without cbeebies!
June 29, 2007 at 12:22 pm
Yes, I’ll replicate Leah’s comment! I’ve also found BBC 4 as well!
Thanks very much, Conor

Hi there.
I still cannot get UTV on SKY using method above … I get no signal when I try to use
parameters assuggested:
{UTV can be found on: Freq=10906, Pol=V, Symb=22, FEC=5/6 }
Any other views on this one ? Thanking you, Regards, Paddo
September 9, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Hmm, they may have moved it. Still working here for some reason.
I double checked Lyngsat and they are still quoting those settings. Full listing here if you want to try another ITV1 variant to see if they work:

thanks so much … sky are such cheapskates that they won’t give out this info… when we signed up they told us we would be able to get CBeebies but when it was installed refused to give us the info… told me to buy a magazine! after much searching found your posting … Thanks again
October 12, 2007 at 6:01 pm
Thanks alot for the information. It’s infuriating when you see something advertised and you don’t have the channel, so I was delighted to find your help. You’ve made me very happy, as I’m sure you have lots of other people. Thanks a million, Linda.
October 17, 2007 at 11:34 am
Peace has landed in our house after finding your site! Ta, you’re a lifesaver!
October 30, 2007 at 10:28 pm

November 8, 2007 at 10:02 am
thanks conor, my 4 year old will be thrilled, told him i was going to get codes on net, he’s very impressed with his mammy
November 8, 2007 at 9:28 pm
tx 4 that. rediculous that u can get dating, gambling, porn, religious fanatics and 100s of channels on sky and be missing a simple pleasure like cbeebies!
by the way any idea if you can edit ads from taped programmes on the sky+box [or in using the copy option ]???
it’s the ads on all the kids channels that really gets me!
November 8, 2007 at 11:23 pm
Someone mentioned a kids channel to me the other day that has no ads. Is it Nat Geo Kids or something?
No way around the ads sadly except to FF at 30x !
November 12, 2007 at 12:23 pm
If I cancel my sub with sky will i still get these extra channels because when I remove my sky card to check it out I cannot get into OTher Channels?
November 12, 2007 at 5:32 pm
I doubt it would work Karen.
If you want non-Sky then you should look into the cheap boxes that are for sale regularly in Lidl and Aldi. They replace your Sky box (keeping same dish and cables I think) but you just get all the free channels. I’ve read several reports of people being very happy with this setup.
Unfortunately you won’t get RTE with this due to them doubling taxing us via licence fee and Sky fee.
November 21, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Thank you very much. Tried to get this info before to no avail. I’ll be in reality heaven now and the kids will be very happy!
November 23, 2007 at 6:10 pm
thanx! i was going to cancel my sky subscription as i wasnt getting the bbc channels, but i shall try this now.
November 24, 2007 at 10:01 am
Is there a frequency code for channel 5 yet.
November 24, 2007 at 10:43 am
I think I tried a while back but had no luck getting it to display. It may be encrypted.
I just checked, it is encrypted so they probably have it turned off for Irish viewers. You can try these settings:
Freq = 10964
Symbol Rate = 22000
FEC = 5/6
Polarisation = H
December 2, 2007 at 10:10 am
thanks for all da advice i’ve now got all the itv channels aswell as the bbc channels thanks for the codes they can b really hard 2 find at time.
January 15, 2008 at 9:32 am

February 12, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Hey, thanks to this posting i was able to guide my 80 yr old Nan through adding UTV – it only took a 20 min phone call. Now that’s impressive! Cheers again, you’re a wee star….
February 12, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Thanks Roisin. That’s the kind of comment that keeps me blogging! I think this has been my most popular post on the blog since 2001.
February 16, 2008 at 11:18 am
Hi there, when i google to get this site there is another one that says you can get RTE 1 & 2 on other channels, any idea how? thanks
February 16, 2008 at 11:48 am
I don’t really understand the question Tanya. RTE 1&2 are available on Sky Digital but only to Irish subscribers. They are not available anywhere else on satellite as far as I know
February 22, 2008 at 11:44 am
rte 1 & 2 are only available in ireland, not on other channels just as per your subscription, should be free anyway! god knows i wouldn pay for it (“,)
March 9, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Is there any way to record programmes such as UTV from the other channels section with Sky+?
March 28, 2008 at 11:01 am
The BBc should work without the sky card and the listings menu will change .the rte’s will be gone and the bbc and itv will be in there place , well works on my skybox anyway as i only use it as a free view box much better than the lidl one as you get the listings and reminders ,

Thanks Conor – just updated a friends old sky box that he had in a shed and he has gone from 4 channels on the rabbits ears to 12 or 13 channels. Excellent info. Tks again.
August 14, 2008 at 11:57 am
Thanx a mill for that Conor. Your a star x
August 22, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Hi Conor
Your info on adding channels was spot on ! I am wondering is there any way of taking away the adult channels ? Putting in the pin each time for utv etc brings the adult channels back .
Thank You
August 30, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Great question Breda. I don’t know if it’s possible but I wish it was. Our youngest kids are forever accidentally ending up on the adult channels.
September 4, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Thanks Conor, I was wondering where they were. Just got Sky and no info!!
Thanks,
Eugene.

Any news on how to get FIVE on sky.. Is it encrypted to all irish viewers?.
October 12, 2008 at 8:53 pm
I’ve tried a few times to tune in Five but it seems to be blocked on Irish Sky viewing cards.
October 17, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Hi,
Just tuned in those channels but how do i view them they dont come up on tv guide list
October 17, 2008 at 4:53 pm
That’s the one big drawback. They are under Services->Other Channels. You also can’t record them if you have Sky+. Bloody Rupert Murdoch!
October 17, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Tanx a mill for that ur a atar
November 23, 2008 at 9:06 am
Wonderful blog – loads of great info. Channel 5 is now listed when you search for the BBC channels (using the info provided at the top of this page).
As for removing the Adult Channels – YES, it can be done. In SERVICVES – PARENTAL CONTROL, you can remove Adult Channels (it even removes them from the EPG). You need your PIN number to do this. There are some other useful restrictions you can apply here (e.g. require PIN to spend money on phone line OR require PIN to watch programs/films rated over 18)
November 23, 2008 at 9:26 am
Thanks for both of those tips Alan. I must programme in Five now.
One feature I like on Sky is that any movie higher than PG rating before 8pm requires a PIN.
November 25, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Still unable to get channel 5 in other channels must still be encrypted
