I’m delighted to hear this! I was only thinking about ye recently. What time do you shut on Saturday’s? I think a trip down is in order this weekend. I could take some pics and vids too with my phone and post them on the blog here.

Know your blog was a while back but we were just looking over comments etc – we Glenmar Shellfish have now merged with Antcar over 12mths ago – if you are ever in Union Hall again be sure and call into the shop again – The Fish Shop – you will not be disappointed – we have recently extended the shop and added alot of additional products to our impressive array of fish – including mussels !!- we also now have a wine licence and stock a very impressive selection of wines – look forward to seeing you soon!!

Thanks Karen, we’ve been very lax in our fish buying for ages. My trips on Saturday mornings were curtailed by kids needing to be dropped to activities. But I have a hunger on me for a big fish pie which I think I’ll do this weekend.

Oh and feel free to let people know lots more about Lettercollum here. I assume you saw this post that I did way back in Dec 2005?

About fish. You can buy fish from Alan who is at the farmers market every Saturday in Bandon and every Thursday in Clonakilty. His fish is always fresh and there’s a good selection, depending on the weather of course. I hope that solve your dilemma

I’ll definitely be checking that out. Sally Barnes from Woodcock Smokery in Castletownsend was on that brutal food programe by Richard Corrigan last week. Looks like a lovely spot.

From Antcar, cross the causeway, go left, head uphill, slowly, and watch out for the smokehouse on your left. They do direct sales, and seem so pleased when people call in that I think it’s still something of a novelty!

I’ve only ever been to the checkout in the supermarket, I must check it out. I bloody love mackerel pate so a return visit to Union Hall is in order. It’s also about time I made a fish pie.

Antcar is a good operation, but you missed the best part of Union Hall – the smoke house!

It’s location is a bit too discreet, but the supermarket in the town stocks most of their range too. They do great smoked fish, as you’d expect, but their ace card is the salmon and mackerel patés. Our 6 & 10 year olds fought over it, but then we told them it was paté and weren’t any more specific than that!

Mmmm, definitely worth the detour!
